SEATTLE, WA – October 23, 2018 – DigitalTown (OTC:DGTW) – with its blockchain-based Platform as a Service (PaaS) technology that supports local-first commerce and community building as part of the Smart City ecosystem – announces the appointment of a new Chief Technology Officer, Simon Flack, effective October 22, 2018.
Australian-born and a resident of Norway, Simon is the former CTO of Smart City company Borealis Engineering, SPV Powered by AECOM; former head of digitalization for the Norwegian municipality of Bodo; and, a former Board Member of the Norwegian Computer Society.
DigitalTown CEO, George Nagy, comments: “Simon’s knowledge of the challenges municipalities face in their quest to become Smart Cities offers DigitalTown valuable insight to best leverage our PaaS solution. Simon’s technological capabilities will allow us streamline and improve a complex and evolving platform into one that is simpler, intuitive and easy to adopt, while focusing on scalability, cost-effectiveness and security.”
DigitalTown CTO, Simon Flack, says: “My experience with Smart Cities has shown me that DigitalTown is an important missing piece of the puzzle. Most municipalities focus on the Internet of Things (IoT) and they omit the Internet of People (IoP). The DigitalTown solution can be used to make cities that are striving to become ‘smart’, even smarter.”
“Our solution connects local businesses with residents and visitors, offering savings to businesses every time they use the free SmartWallet and rewarding everyone with CommunityPoints for using the wallet and other features, such as messaging. I am excited to be a part of this fledgling project and I look forward to contributing to its success,” adds Simon Flack.
George Nagy concludes: “Simon joins us at an important time for DigitalTown as we prove out the model with our pilot project in Austin. His experience will certainly help us to deliver a global solution that can be adopted by any city, with or without the municipality. I am delighted to welcome Simon to the executive team of DigitalTown.”
